Palestinian Activists To Speak at Socialist Summer School: ISRAELI REPRESSION, PALESTINIAN RESISTANCE

MAINSTREAM NEWS organizations like to say the crisis in the Middle East is the result of an irrational cycle of violence. Recently they pointed to the bombing of a Tel Aviv disco that killed 17 people to illustrate the horror of the conflict.

BUT WITH less attention on May 18th the Israeli government used US warplanes against Palestinians, and hit their main target, a police station and jail in Nablus, killing eleven people. And that is on top of months of brutal repression against the Palestinian Intifada, the most recent uprising against the occupation and the apartheid conditions under which Palestinians live. Hundreds have been killed in the past six months, the vast majority of them Palestinian and many of them children.

THE UNITED States sends Israel billions of dollars in aid each year to prop up the brutal occupation of the Palestinian people, and defend US corporate interests in the region.

SOCIALIST SUMMER School 2001 will feature a series of talks and discussions on the Palestinian resistance to the oppressive Israeli crackdown and the growing Palestinian solidarity movement in the United States. Come discuss how we can fight for a democratic secular Palestinian state and how we can bring the struggle home to the US.
