June 25 Day Of Action Against Novartis

In solidarity with the demonstrations against the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) conference in San Diego, Minnesotans Opposing Biotech (MOB) are calling for a Day Of Action targeting one of the largest biotech companies in the world. We are asking all people resisting biotechnology, animal cruelty, and globalization in the Twin Cities to join us at Novartis’ Golden Valley offices at 7300 Olson Memorial highway ( Highway 55) on this day. The last year has seen major resistance to biotech in the Twin Cities, from the direct actions of the Bolt Weevils, to the blockade of Cargill’s headquarters in March 2000; from the resistance to the ISAG meetings in July 2000, to the November 30 protests against MNBIO. We have found, through each of these actions, that the struggle for human, earth and animal liberation is increasingly becoming one and the same. Bringing together different “movements,” we have loudly and boldly confronted biotech in every way possible. This i
s another opportunity to combine our efforts and rise up in resistance to Novartis and the Biotech Industry!
Novartis has been chosen for several reasons:
1) As one of the largest biotech companies in the world, Novartis and their subsidiary Syngenta Seeds are responsible for the flooding of domestic and foreign markets with their Genentically Engineered seeds.
2) Novartis Pharma AG’s involvement with Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) as a customer has resulted in the deaths of over 10,000 monkeys, pigs and dogs in top-secret xenotransplantation experiments. Huntingdon Life Sciences is Europe's largest contract animal testing laboratory and ranks as one of the largest in the world.
3) Novartis is a major proponent of the not only the WTO, but of the Free Trade Area of the Americas.

Some proposed ideas for the day include:
Serving organic, GMO free food; Guerilla Gardening; puppets; Bio-suit bloc (Dressing in white biotech suits); street theater; affinity group actions; internet activism; phone/fax blockades; radical cheering;
