Anti-war Demonstration at Chicago's Federal Plaza
This compelling photo of Daniel Romero captures an American's boisterous voice of descent.
On March 20, 2003, protesters gathered in Chicago's Federal Plaza in defiance of the Bush Administration's decision to declare war on Iraq. Angered and outraged by the previous night's bombing, protesters rallied behind the thunderous voice of Daniel Romero. "What do we want? Peace! When do we want it? Now!", he shouted. After each speaker voiced his or her opposition to the war, the large crowd brazenly marched towards Michigan Avenue. The subsequent arrests of several hundred protesters marked the end of the day's demonstration, but they would gather again, in growing numbers, to relentlessly demand an end to the war on Iraq.
