Observations from M22

Some thoughts about focus of message plus false reporting by NPR
Just some thoughts about yesterday's demonstration/march. This was my first such rally, and I am glad that I went. My impression, though, as a non-radical-type, were that there was a lot of agenda pushing going on in the Communist/Socialist areas. I know that these rallies have been mainly organized by members of some of these groups, and I would never tell anyone what to do. It just seems that if the goal here is to get average Joe and Jane-types to join the opposition, that there should be more emphasis on facts rather than ideologies per se. While there were a bunch of "bulletheads" on the other side of the plaza, there were also most likely people there just supporting their loved ones who, if they knew some of the facts and weren't offput by radicalism, might have ended up on the other side of that barricade. Facts like:

Bush lied to the American people and the world about Iraq's nuclear program--a major factor in swaying public opinion towards the war.

The administration never intended on letting UN inspectors do their job--March was always the planned as the war month (because it's too hot to fight in full chemical gear in June).

Even Bush Sr. said in a speech at a college that acting without Security Council approval was a dangerous thing to do.

Ignoring the rule of law is no way to spread democracy.

While this stuff is a little unwieldy as far as sloganeering goes, I'm sure that those of you out there more creative than I could come up with some catchy phrases.

ALSO--the 6PM news on NPR Saturday stated that Federal Plaza was "packed" with pro-war demonstrators. Nothing about our half. So much for the "P" in NPR.

Peace, Love & Impeachment,
Jim
