Question about pro-war rally on Saturday, and suggestion of what to do instead of agressive confrontation.
According to WGN, Pro-war activists are holding a rally at Federal Plaza on Saturday at 11 am. Does anyone know the truth about this?
I think it is very important not to have a major confrontation between groups, which would demean everyone and allow the media to show the anti-war side as nuts. I think even a shouting match would undermine the movement.
But wouldn't it be nice if someone did an on-site parody of that rally? They could do it the following way:
-Be very polite, dress in nice pants, brown shirts and American flag armbands. Slick your hair back and toss that heil hand whenever America is mentioned.
-carry signs like SUV DRIVERS FOR CHRIST and KILL AN ARAB FOR AMERICA and chant KILL KILL KILL whenever they mention the war.
-get interviewed as a "pro-war" person and then spout rhetoric, that is crazy but camera ready (example: "I agree with Ann Coulter - kill their leaders and convert the rest to Christ." or "We shouldn't defy the UN, we should end it" [an actual pro-war site quote]).
-Distribute some of those pro-war poster parodies available at
www.micahwright.com.
Of course, it's probably too much to expect something this sneaky and witty on short notice, but I think satire might be more powerful than shouting in this case.
