More on arrests as of 10:30pm

Arrests at protest
Per an arrestee at 10:05, he was in a police van with about 30 people (as I understood it all men). They were all cuffed but everyone was more or less okay physically. The police would not tell them where they were being taken or the "official" reason for their arrest. He said that when the arrests began there were still upwards of 1000 people left, possibly several thousand. By his estimate, the rally had lasted about an hour; at around 7:30pm - 8pm the police boxed in the marchers and would not let people leave. He had not seen too much police violence in his part of the march--the police took the opportunity to rough up anyone who was straggling or attempting to move further out into traffic. He saw lots of parents with children; he did not see any right-wing anti-war presence (which there was in Minneapolis, for example). There seemed to be relatively good communication among protestors and arrestees by cell phone, prior to being booked that is.
