Initiated by the International ANSWER Coalition, the permitted march moved from San Francisco's Civic Center Plaza to Jefferson Square Park. Rally speakers included San Francisco supervisor and mayoral candidate Tom Ammiano, actors Danny Glover and Martin Sheen, state Assembly majority leader Wilma Chan, D-Oakland, and musician Michael Franti of the group Spearhead. While crowds estimates vary, SF-IMC is reporting that at least 150 people were arrested by San Francisco police during a large unpermitted breakaway march from the central rally.
