Lysistrata at the Neo-Futararium

Over 180 people packed Chicago’s North side Neo-Futararium Monday night in synchronicity with the world’s first global theatrical peace performance. Sponsored by the newly formed Andersonville Neighbors for Peace, the Greek anti-war comedy by Aristophanes brought many to laughter as well as flushed faces to the more modest. The twenty-five roles were read by nineteen actresses and actors under the direction of Eva Breneman with Lesley Bevan starring as our heroine of peace, Lysistrata. Lysistrata brings and end to the Peloponnesian War by uniting women of both sides to with hold intimacy from their husbands till they lay down arms.
After the reading many stayed for the discussion which was sponsored by Not In Our Name (www.notinourname.net/~chicago/-). The discussion helped unite a sense of where the peace movement is in opposing the Bush Regime. Some of the things brought up by those taking turns speaking included the extremeness of the upcoming PATRIOT 2 act as well as the realization that we few leaders in congress that are answering to the majority anti-war citizenry. None the less community based peace groups are doing incredible things. Announcements were also done.
