School district 230 in Tinley Park, Illinois is under fire from the community today. In a recent budget plan released by the District 230 school board, the school board plans on removing most (if not all) janitorial staff and technician services. This follows construction on all three local schools, (Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Andrew High School in Tinley Park, and Stagg High School in Palos Hills) which not only gained community ridicule, but also attracted a federal investigation for money laundering.

The school district is now in debt $3.5 million, and plans on replacing most if not all Janitorial services and technicians with private companies at a lower cost. According to the District 230 superintendent, Dr. Patrick McMahon, “In light of the District’s $3.5 million budget deficit, we would be negligent in not considering this potential savings.”

Though, he seems to forget one important point: Personal lives have more meaning than money. This plan would affect the personal lives of the people it is bestowed upon and will affect the lives of their family members and loved ones. The plan versioned by the district 230 school board could also disrupt the integrity of an already fading school District. Not only this, but there is a certain individual (whose name will not be disclosed here for personal reasons) whose wife is suffering from a fatal disease, and if this budget is carried out, will lose insurance which is needed for her treatment.

Should an individual suffer because of the mistakes of others?

For these reasons, a protest is scheduled at Andrew High School for Friday, February the 28. The protest is at 8 am, and anyone who can attend would be greatly appreciated.
