No War Sign Over Edens at Rush Hour by N4P

About a dozen activists held large "No War" signs at the Old Orchard Rd. Edens Overpass On Wednesday, February 5th from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. We received a positive response from many of the motorists. (article 5)
For the second time in the last 2 weeks Neighbors for Peace held an anti-war vigil Wednesday, February 5th at the Old Orchard Rd. overpass that spans the Edens expressway.

About a dozen activists held the two large "No War" signs, while others held "Honk for Peace" signs from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. An hour during rush hour last week exposed an estimated 15,000 cars to our signs!

Dave Trippel from N4P & NION constructed these amazing signs, with "No" on one panel and "War" on another, each section is on a 4' by 8' canvas, and the letters are 40" tall. The struts attached to each side of the panels hold them 3 feet off the ground, and allow them to be bungee-corded to the overpass railing. Good thing too, when the wind kicks-up!

We had some hassles from the Skokie police, who said we couldn't attach anything to the railing, so we removed the bungee cords. Later, a Illinois State Trooper car stopped to tell us we couldn't walk up and down the highway on and off ramps handing out free "No War" buttons, but that attaching the big signs to the railing was ok. After telling this to the watching Skokie police, and seeing them drive off in a huff, we again re-attahced the bungee cords, making the signs a lot safer for the cars below!

We received honks and or waves from at least a third of motorists, and the negative responses were only a handful out of thousands of vehicles. As usual, the middle-finger replies were almost exclusivey protruding from giant SUV's.
