Saturday rally in Chicago against the FTAA!!!

Leo Gerard, president of the United Steel Workers Association, will speak about globalization on Saturday April 21 at the Hendrickson Spring Plant, 48th and Western in Chicago at 11:30. There will also be puppets...
Attention anyone ready to act on corporate greed,

The FTAA is the next step in expanding NAFTA, and both of the preceding are trade agreements between nations in our hemispere. Many citizen and environmental groups are opposed to the way these trade agreements are unfolding. This is because they promote profits for the corporations while ignoring social issues such as a living wages, working conditions and human rights violations. They're also very ruff on our environment.

Leo Gerard, president of the United Steel Workers Association, will speak about these trade agreements here on Saturday April 21 at the Hendrickson Spring Plant in Chicago. Between 300 to 400 steel workers will attend as well as other civil action groups. The location was chosen because the plant is losing 20 percent of it's jobs to Canada and 80 percent of it's jobs to Mexico as a result of NAFTA.

In addition to Mr. Gerard, there will be a parade and a "race to the bottom" skit high-lighting the irresponsibility of these type of trade agreements. There will also be noise makers, puppets, and hopefully some smiles too! This event will support the citizens groups in Quebec this weekend straining to make their voices heard.

The event begins around 11:30 on Saturday and should last about two hours. It is located at 48th and Western.

Looking forward to Saturday,

Jim
