The Little Village Environmental Network, along with the American Lung
Association, Illinois PIRG, the Pilsen-Southwest Side Green Party and local
high schools have been leading a campaign to clean up the Fisk and Crawford
power plants, both built before the clean air act (and therefore not
required to meet its standards), which are responsible for dozens of Chicago
deaths per year. They are currently lobbying City Hall in support of the
Chicago Clean Power Ordinance submitted by Alderman Ed Burke that would
force both plants to comply with the clean air act.
