The founding meeting of the north side chapter of Librarians & Patrons Public Alert will be held Thursday, December 12, at 6:30pm at Prologue School, Lakeshore Academy Campus 3rd floor, 640 W. Irving Park Rd.(at Marine Drive).

This is a follow-up to the splendid action at the Chicago Public Library Board meeting on November 19 at the Harold Washington Library Center (HWLC). On a weekday Tuesday morning, upwards of fifty people attended and SPOKE-UP to protest the forced transfer of two dozen veteran reference librarians from HWLC to neighborhood branches in Library Commissioner Mary Dempsey's downsizing of central library reference staff and "minimalization" of the book collection in favor of an expanding network of "Internet kiosks" throughout Chicago.

Join together to help plan another intervention at the Library Board meeting on Tuesday, December 17, and in the New Year, as part of a sustained campaign for better reference service and more books at both the central library and in the branches.

Also, protest the CONTINUING library administrative harassment of David Williams for his public criticism of CPL policies and holding of progressive forums at the Lincoln Park Branch Library. This bureaucratic harassment has accelerated since the victory of David and other members of his Library Employees United (LEU) slate in the recent American Federation of State County & Municipal Employees Local #1215 library union election.
