COME OUT AND SUPPORT HOTEL WORKERS!
HELP THEM SAVE THEIR JOBS!
Hundreds of Hilton hotel workers are being threatened with dismissal. Hilton Hotel management has told these workers that they have received letters from the Social Security Administration stating that their names and social security numbers do not match.
This past year, the Social Security Administration has sent close to 800,000 letters to employers when a discrepancy exists between an employees name and number, causing panic and confusion and massive illegal firings.
Dozens of workers at Hiltons Doubletree on Chicagos Gold Coast and at other Hilton hotels have been given two weeks to fix their social security numbers. If they are not able to, Hilton says they will fire these workers. The letter sent by the Social Security Administration states that
receiving a SSA no-match letter by itself does not warrant an employers request that employees listed on the letter show additional documentation to establish continued worker authorization. An employer who requires employees to show additional documents (including requiring an employee to bring in her actual social security card) could be subjecting itself to document abuse charges under IRCAs anti-discrimination provisions.
Workers have asked management to see a copy of the no-match letters, so far their requests to see these letters has been denied. Yet these employees are scheduled to be fired at the end of the day on Wednesday, December 11. Many of these employees have worked at Hiltons Doubletree for up to ten, fifteen, even twenty years. They are taxing paying individuals who work very hard for their paychecks. Please support these workers and let Hilton Hotels know we will not support their policy of firing these workers.
