Escaped Trade Unionist Seeks International Support in Colombian Workers Struggle

Narrowly escaping kidnap, torture, and probable assassination, Colombian union organizer Luis Adolfo Cardona recently spoke at union halls and campuses across the city, hoping to inspire support for the Colombian union workers who are struggling against the Coca-Cola Company in Colombia. ÒIn Colombia, we have great social problems,Ó Cardona told an attentive audience at Loyola University Thursday night. ÒThere are fights for territory, for power, and over the economy. But thereÕs one problem I want to talk about most: the role of the multinational corporations and the government.Ó
