Honor the Earth Tour

Honor the Earth Tour - Chicago Theater 10/17/00

Since 1993 Honor the Earth has coordinated three hugely
successful concert tours featuring the Grammy Award
winning Indigo Girls. These tours have created a
stronger voice for Native environmental groups across
North America–groups fighting clear cutting in
Alaska, PCB contamination in New York, pesticide spraying
in California –and more. We've played in Indian reservation high school
auditoriums, testified at hearings, held press and editorial
board briefings and Congressional receptions–all to draw
attention to grassroots Native efforts to protect the land
and future generations.

On September 30, 2000, we're launching our fourth Honor
the Earth concert tour!

Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Indigenous and special guest
Joan Baez will join Indigo Girls on a select set of shows as
we rock across the country with a three-week set of high
impact events to change the odds in Native struggles.
Struggles that effect all of us.

As with past tours, every stop on this year's tour will
highlight Native activists and groups and offer the public
concrete ways to support Native environmental work. We'll
feature impacted community spokespeople at every stop,
conduct daily press conferences and hold a set of
reservation rallies and shows to build momentum for local
Native initiatives. Join with us on this journey to educate,
mobilize, fundraise and celebrate front-line Native
environmental struggles with music!

The 2000 Honor the Earth Tour will support two watershed
resistance struggles in Native America. Our call is for "No
Nuclear Waste on Native Lands" and to "Stop the
Yellowstone Buffalo Slaughter."

Honor the Earth has been working diligently on these issues
over the last three years, and we are strategically planning
the 2000 Tour as a means to add spark to these struggles,
strengthen Native voices and catalyze change.

This Honor the Earth 2000 Tour will also promote
environmental and cultural solutions based on indigenous
wisdom. We want to inspire a vision for a sustainable future
in the largest bio-region in North America, the Great Plains.
The tour will support forward thinking Native initiatives
aimed at buffalo restoration and safe energy along the tour
