Activists to Demonstrate at Mink Factory
Issue Challenge to Farmer to Debate about Ethics of Fur

Crystal Lake, IL – This Sunday, October 1 at 1pm, members of the Animal Defense League (ADL) will be at the Frye Mink Factory (2222 & 2224 Behan Road, Crystal Lake) to protest the business’ involvement in the fur industry. The animal rights group contends that the fur trade – including the raising of mink for their fur – is inhumane and cruel.

This demonstration at the Frye Mink Factory is the first in what the group is calling their “Fur Factory Tour.” They are expected to hold demonstrations at other Illinois fur factories throughout the fall and winter of 2000.

Last weekend, the group issued a challenge to Larry & Steven Frye to debates the ethics of fur in addition to an open invitation to the community to discuss the fur industry.

“Each year, more than 40 million animals are slaughtered for their fur by gassing, trapping, neck breaking and electrocution,” states ADL member Josh Schwartz. “There is nothing ethically sound about killing animals for vanity. We invite the public to join us at the demonstration this Sunday to engage in an open dialogue about the inherently cruel and violent nature of the fur industry.”

Media packets will be available on site.

The Animal Defense League is a grassroots animal liberation group founded in 1993 to educate the public about all forms of animal exploitation.
