Action: Our Grief Is Not A Cry For War!

5:30 - 7:30 action, followed by a poetry reading. Meet at Milwaukee/ Division/ Ashland triangle.

WANTED: ON SEPTEMBER 11TH, several people are needed to send a message that we do not accept this "war that may last decades" --in the name of our security! We need your commitment to stand for several minutes (up to an hour) in silence wearing black and large signs saying "OUR GRIEF IS NOT A CRY FOR WAR."

This was done in New York shortly after September 11th and was very powerful.
I got this in my e-mail from Refuse & Resist!

From 5:30-7:30 we will be focusing on the Milwaukee/Division/Ashland triangle. If for any reason you want to join us but will not be able to stand still in silence --and for the strongest affect, staying in one place-- please come anyway, hand out flyers (your organizations' anti-war/repression related flyers) in silence, help with the signs, etc.

Join with others who are determined to stop this war without end, and the domestic war-time police state measures that go with it. September 11th will be a day saturated with justification for the "war on terrorism" and our performance will help to encourage others to step out and say NO to War on the World! Not In Our Name! (see attachment for R&R! Artists Network article from Sept. 2001)

Some of you know about this already and have expressed interest in joining us on this day. Too late to RSVP now, just show up! Spread the word to others that may be interested in joining us.

Subject: September 11 event will include NION pledge

Greetings,
This Wednesday 9/11 at 7:30 PM an event called A Cry For Peace will be held at the Chopin Theatre, 1545 W. Division. The event features 12 poets and writers including Sterling Plump. The event will end with the ensemble doing a collective reading of the NION pledge.

Wage Peace.
Spread Love.
Make Justice.

Mars Gamba-Adisa Caulton
Our grief is NOT a cry for war.

NOT a license to attack anywhere and anyone the president sees fit.

NOT a call for roundups and detentions of immigrants.

NOT a demand for neighborhood spy networks.

NOT a forfeit of our right to question…or of our responsibility to resist injustice.

NO WAR! NO POLICE STATE! ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE! WE WILL REFUSE AND RESIST!
