Informational Picket for Anna Mustafa!

Why:
On December 28, 2001, Anna Mustafa was traveling to her
father's funeral in the West Bank when at O'Hare Airport she was
pulled aside for no discernable reason except that she is Arab.
She was interrogated and verbally harassed by Chicago police
officers and then charged with three felony counts of "disorderly
conduct". This kind of illegal racial profiling on the basis of
ethnicity and religion has led to detention of thousands of
Muslim and Arab Americans and Arab nationals across this
country. Anna's nightmare did not end there, though—she was
also illegally suspended from her job without pay (which is a
clear violation of her union contract with the city) and then fired
from her job with the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County
with no due process.

Anna Mustafa has lived in Chicago for 43 years and has been a
pillar of the Chicago community. She was the first Arab
American appointed by Mayor Richard Daley to serve as a
member of the Chicago Board of Education.

Join us on for an informational picket, with fact sheets and
petitions, for Anna Mustafa on Wednesday May 8th from 4:45
until 5:45 at the State of Illinois Building to demand that State's
Attorney, Dick Devine, immediately drop these false charges, that
Dorothy Brown, the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court
reinstate Anna Mustafa's job and finally that Chicago Police
Superintendent Terry Hilliard launch an investigation into the
behavior of the officers involved in Anna's detention and arrest.
